First Saturdays Hosted by Ed Rivers. WeAfA(cent)A'AA'A(TM)re juggling things and bringing in some new energy too, and in the process, Ed Rivers will now host the First Saturday Jam Sessions here at Listen & Be Heard Poetry CafAfAfA'A(C). We hope that you will come join him with your instrument and willingness to play it together with the other musicians who come to jam. We never do know what to expect. Last Saturday Ed was joined by Phil on the ukelele. It was fun to listen while they worked out which songs they could play together and took turns taking the lead. Ed Rivers began classic music training at age 10 with the catholic church choir, singing high mass hymnals, Gregorian Chant, plus holiday varietals. It was his introduction to performing to large audiences. At age 12 he was a student of guitar via folk and rock music. As a teen he produced and directed musical shows with folk, rock, and show venues plus put on variety and vaudeville shows. At age 18 he began study in Flamenco guitar while maintaining an avid interest in rock and blues study and performance. He started raising kids at age 22 so nursery lullabies and preschool sing a longs were mastered. He also at this time did back round instrumental guitar for high fashion show companies. At age 30 he began a 20 year involvement in broadway shows, operas and operettas. He performed in The Mikado, My Fair Lady, Cinderella, Mr. Cauliflower, plus more. He has over 3 years of professional voice training in opera plus continued voice instruction in rock and blues. He has performed with Sonoma City Opera, Sonoma Valley Chorale and did one stint with North Bay Opera. He also in the last decade has produced, directed and performed in various country western and rock and roll shows. Most recently he has found the Karoake circuit a convenient mode as the time commitment to large products are so daunting to business and family life. He currently devoted time to acoustic jams, cameo appearances, weddings and other events and studio rehearsals. Most of his interest and study today is on the blues harp, rock and blues guitar and vocal work.
